All About the Salts
Mediterranean Sea Salt – Mediterranean Sea Salts are harvested from the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The one I use is from the Spain side. They are produced using the ancient method of solar evaporation in a region that is free of pollution and has high evaporation rates.
Adding a little sea salt to the bath can stimulate circulation, ease muscle cramps, help relieve stiffness in joints, aid with arthritis or back pain, and soothe achy, overworked legs and feet. Plus sea salt helps cleanse and detoxify the largest organ in the body—your skin. Sea salts soften the water, they, therefore, help to soften the skin.
Sea salt also has intense detoxifying properties, and will help to draw toxins out of the body and the skin when you allow it time to works its powerful magic. Speaking of magic, I found this interesting when I was digging around for the benefits of sea salt: They charge up the body — literally. When salt is heated in water, negative ions are created. And since the body just happens to be positively charged, when these negative ions connect to the body, it helps reduce stress and promote healing.
Mediterranean Sea salt is also rich in minerals including calcium, potassium, iodine, sulfate, bicarbonate, strontium and magnesium that will help alleviate and soothe most skin conditions, while helping to calm and ease a restless mind or any tension in the body.
Though I don’t have bath salts with essential oils added at this time, coarse grain absorbs essential oils easily and is great for therapeutic bath soaks and blends.
Pink Himalayan Salt – Pink Himalayan Salt comes from Pakistan. Aides in removing toxins from the skin, balances the alkaline levels, and controls acidity. This salt also gives the skin a healthy glow. This is NOT a sea salt, more of a mineral salt. This salt is ideal for people with sensitive skin.
Since pink Himalayan salt is hand-mined and ground, producers of this salt argue that it is even more natural than sea salt. In terms of its composition, pink Himalayan salt does have traces of more beneficial minerals than sea salt.
While sea salt contains bits of 72 particles, pink Himalayan salt has “all 84 essential trace elements required by your body”. Some of those minerals include: calcium, potassium, sulfur, iron, zinc, bromine, and tantalum.
Pink Mineral Salt – This unrefined pink mineral salt comes from a pristine, underground salt deposit in Utah left behind by an ancient sea. This salt deposit is naturally protected from pollutants and contains 60+ trace minerals. It is mostly made of sodium chloride, but also has calcium, potassium, magnesium and silica. This was the only salt I could find that had silica named as one of their main minerals. Silica is said to improve collagen production. This salt is great for sensitive skin. I love this salt. I am using this salt in my bath bomb formulations.
Celtic Sea Salt ® (grey) – Celtic Sea Salt comes from France and is unique since it retains its moisture. This salt is hand harvested using a method invented by the Celts who settled this region of France. Celtic sea salt has only 33% sodium compared to other salts that yield sodium at 98%. Celtic sea salt would be less drying to the skin if you notice other salts are drying for you.
The grey color is indicative of the salt’s natural trace minerals absorbed from its sea origins. Unwashed, unrefined, and additive-free, French grey bath salt maintains all of its health-enhancing nutrients vital to the human body. Celtic Sea salt has 34 trace minerals such as magnesium, calcium, potassium, copper, zinc, iron, and others.
Celtic Sea Salt added to a warm bath helps to draw impurities out of your skin, re-mineralizes your skin and invigorates the water. It aides in feeling refreshed, revitalized, and relaxed.
Dead Sea Salt - Dead Sea Salt is a dry, natural white crystal harvested from the Southern Dead Sea, where the concentration of minerals is the highest. Dead Sea salt extracted and solar dried from the saline and mineral-rich marshes of the confined Dead Sea. This extraordinary composition has made the Dead Sea an ideal spot for people seeking relief and relaxation. In fact, these soothing waters have a reputation that dates back over 2000 years. Dead Sea Salt is said to be the most therapeutic of bath salts and very gentle on the skin. You can bring that ancient, therapeutic experience home with my bath salts that include authentic Dead Sea salts.
Dead Sea salts contain 21 minerals including magnesium, calcium, sulfur, bromide, iodine, sodium, zinc, and potassium. The high mineral content is credited with the cleansing and detoxification of the skin. These essential minerals naturally occur in our bodies but must be replenished, as they are depleted throughout the day. They also have the ability to calm aching muscles and joints, stimulate natural circulation, smooth and soften the skin from common dry skin conditions, and help relieve stress and tension. These minerals are easily absorbed into our pores and are known to cleanse and purify our skin on a molecular level, improving your skin's radiance, tone, and texture.
Dead Sea Salts are very dry and absorb essential oils with ease, enabling the oils to be released easily into the bathwater as the salts dissolve. This is beneficial for those wishing to experience the benefits of Dead Sea salt and aromatherapy in the privacy of their own home.
